My Bokashi Bran Journey

My journey with Bokashi Bran began on the 1st of September 2022 as a social media and marketing Intern. Safe to say, I was nervous, and rightfully so; just like starting any new job, this was an expected emotion and came as no surprise. I was immediately integrated into the company and given a crash course about Bokashi Bran, its benefits, and how the company came into existence. This gave me an idea of what would be expected of me for the next 12 months and why it is essential to be aware of the food waste dilemma.
I had never been aware of food waste’s impact on the environment and our landfills; honestly, I was slightly naïve. Working close to Bronwyn Jones for a week made me more environmentally conscious; this could easily be because of her passion and drive to create awareness of the food waste dilemma. In the space of a week, I had learnt so much, not just designing content for Bokashi Brans’ social media and online marketing but beyond that.
On the 15th of September 2022 (Featherbrooke Estate collection day), my second week working at Bokashi Bran. I would have never thought I would be in a truck collecting food waste (This is my first time riding in a truck, not to mention collecting food waste), so you could imagine the excitement. Fanta, the truck driver, gave me a few tips on how to drive a truck uphill, a task that he finds highly daunting; he also told me more about the Bokashi bucket system collection process. I was left surprised and impressed at the number of Featherbrooke residents aware of the impact food waste has on the environment and have taken part in the Bokashi system. Yes, this once again made me feel highly naïve. I overheard a satisfied customer speaking to Bronwyn who we were collecting food waste from; one thing she emphasized is how simple the process is.
I wondered how we could get more Featherbrooke residents onto the Bokashi bucket system; my marketing mind kicked in. We all know people love simple; people generally get attracted to something that can make life easier. Thus, I delved into how we can create awareness; maybe a letter to Featherbrooke residents could do the job, hopefully. I would confidently urge anybody, young or old, no matter the demographic, to get involved and feel free to enquire about the Bokashi system from Bokashi Bran.
Today, I am a proud owner of the Bokashi Bran starter kit; what I thought would be my work journey has instantly been transformed into something much more important, a journey beyond what I would have expected, a journey towards creating awareness for my family, community and friends about food waste and how we collectively can contribute to an environmentally sustainable environment.
